The LG Splendor

Like the Optimus L7, the Splendor runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, sports an impressive 4.3-inch screen, and has decent battery life. In addition, the Splendor has a faster 1GHz processor than its global counterpart, making it a breeze to handle. And while it isn't NFC-enabled, I'm willing to go without this novel piece of technology if it means getting more reliable performance.

The advantage:
U.S. Cellular's LG Splendor is an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich device with a zippy processor, a bright display, and a thin build.

The unfavorable:
The Splendor's 3G data speeds are slow, its output speaker is poor, and its camera quality is mediocre.

The offer:
The LG Splendor doesn't have the fastest network connection, but it's an affordable and snappy handset that's loaded with Android 4.0 and a swift CPU.

The HP slides out

The new HP x2401 24-inch-diagonal LED backlit monitor has an 11-millimeter profile encased in a glossy black-piano finish and brushed-metal case.

Sporting a resolution of 1920x1080, it taps MVA (multidomain vertical alignment) to deliver good viewing angles and 5,000:1 and 10,000,000:1 static and dynamic contrast ratios, respectively.

DisplayPort and HDMI ports are built in. And wall mounting is also possible.

The x2401 follows the ultrathin x2301 23-inch display announced last year.

Both a consumer and business version will be offered. The consumer HP x2401 starts at $249 and is expected to be available in the United States on Nov. 7. The commercial version, the L2401x, starts at $259 and is expected to be available worldwide on Nov. 5.

The Sonos Connect

The Sonos Connect resembles the larger Connect:Amp with the same squat shape, but instead of the two-tone color scheme the Connect opts for a simpler, and arguably more attractive, all-white design. The device sits on blue rubber feet, which offers some isolation from the outside world.

The advantage:
The Sonos Connect brings the Sonos ecosystem to users who don't want a standalone speaker system. Setup is incredibly easy, and the software apps are effortless. Sound quality is good, and the digital output means it can be even better. The analog input means the system can stream analog components around your house.
The unfavorable:
There are other components in the Sonos range that beat it for sound quality. If you're not using it as part of a multiroom setup, it's somewhat pricey for what it does.
The offer:
The Sonos Connect brings effortless wireless media streaming to existing hi-fi owners, but it's not the first Sonos system we'd recommend.

The Vizio E320i-A0

The 32-inch LED-based LCD, which Vizio says will cost about $300 at Wal-Mart and Costco when it goes on sale in October, is the cheapest smart TV I know about (at press time the online price shows as $370 from Vizio directly). That's about $50 more than the Toshiba 32C120U, but once you add a Roku or other device that price advantage evaporates. And in a bedroom setting where a TV this size is most at home, there's usually less room for external boxes, and less budget to add the universal remotes that make using such boxes just as easy as an integrated smart TV.
The advantage:
The Vizio E320i-A0 32-inch LED-based LCD TV is a superb value, bringing Smart TV and solid picture quality in the same price range as many small TVs with neither. The Smart content selection is excellent and responsiveness was very good. Image-quality highlights include relatively deep black levels and good color. With its thin bezel, the set has a more compact, sleeker look than competitors.

The unfavorable:
The Vizio's picture falls short of some entry-level TVs', with subpar shadow detail, and shows some discoloration in dark areas. Its Smart TV interface design seems a bit dated.

The offer:
For people seeking integrated Smart features, the Vizio E320i-A0 is the strongest value we've seen yet among 32-inch TVs.

The LG 50PA6500

LG's cheapest 1080p plasma does some things right, particularly colors, and some not-so right, the worst being LCD-like black levels that lead to a less "present" picture. The LG PA6500's biggest problem, though, is that its competition is too good. At 50 inches, the entry-level
Samsung E450 is cheaper and a better performer despite its lower resolution; if you insist on 1080p, the slightly more expensive
Panasonic U50 is the way to go. Meanwhile the 60-inch PA6500 is among the least expensive TVs you can buy at that size, but we'd still recommend paying extra for the much better picture quality of theSamsung PN60E550.

The advantage:
The LG PA6500 is an inexpensive plasma with natural-looking colors and solid bright-room quality. Image processing is a highlight, with correct 24p response mating well with the full 1080p resolution. This LG has a living-room-friendly appearance and it's easy to use as well.

The Amazon Kindle Fire

Amazon has completely redesigned the Kindle Fire's interface. It's sleeker, more streamlined, and feels more mature, eschewing the toy like quality the original had. Fonts are sharper and light and dark images feel more contrasted thanks to the new interface's darker tone. The carousel interface is still here, but scrolls faster and smoother, with app icons rendered in less pixely forms. Apps can be removed from the carousel at will and/or added to favorites, which appear at the bottom of the screen, negating the need to scroll through your entire catalog to find the app you want.

The advantage:
The Kindle Fire (2012) improves on its predecessor in three key ways: faster performance, a better interface with cool new features, and a significant price reduction.
The unfavorable:
Designwise it's the same Fire from 2011 with no HD video support, no camera, no HDMI, no storage expansion, and no volume buttons.
The offer:
The Kindle Fire (2012) takes it up a notch in value, but is tethered to the same design oversights of the original.

The PSB M4U 2

The PSB Speakers' new $399.99 M4U 2 Active Noise Cancelling Headphones may be the company's very first pair of headphones, but the engineers' smart design choices and superior sound put the M4U 2s at the head of the pack. They're fairly compact for a full-size, over-ear design and one of the few sets that can still play music after the batteries die.

The advantage:
The PSB Speakers M4U 2 Active Noise Cancelling Headphones have really comfy earpads, keep working even after the batteries have drained, and sound great.
The unfavorable:
The M4U 2s are a bit more expensive than most top-of-the-line noise-canceling headphones.
The offer:
The PSB M4U 2 headphones combine above-average noise cancellation with excellent sound quality that's well worth the price for dedicated audiophiles looking to eliminate ambient noise.

The Samsung Galaxy S II 4G

The $369.99 Samsung Galaxy II 4G is an excellent example of this phenomenon. Similar to action-movie characters who have lived through countless sequels, the Galaxy S II doesn’t move quite as fast as it once did. Even so, armed with all the tools that made the phone great in its heyday, such as fast dual-core processing, a lovely high-contrast AMOLED screen, and 4G data, the Galaxy S II 4G can still throw a mean punch.

Advantage:
The Samsung Galaxy S II 4G sports a large and vivid 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display. Powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, the phone also runs Android 4.0 and is 4G-capable. Camera quality is also excellent.

Unfavorable:
Call quality could be better. The device is large and has a plasticky build.

The SAMSUNG Sophisticated MV900F SMART Camera

Samsung Electronics America Inc., a market leader and award-winning innovator in consumer electronics, is now shipping the MV900F, the newest digital camera among the company’s Wi-Fi SMART camera offerings. Building on the popularity of its predecessor, Samsung’s MV800, the MV900F’s innovative 180-degree MultiView display makes it easy to capture creative self-portraits from any angle, and now with the addition of Wi-Fi connectivity – also easy to share images with friends and family. Priced at $349.99 (MSP) and available for purchase at retailers nationwide, the MV900F comes in sophisticated white and black.

“Samsung’s MultiView cameras are among the most successful compact cameras and now with the addition of Wi-Fi and innovative features like Gesture Shot, the MV900F packs enough punch to make it a category leader.
Integrating Wi-Fi technology into the MultiView line, the MV900F instantly connects with Facebook, Picasa, Photobucket and YouTube without the need for any wires or cables. With just the touch of the dedicated SMART LINK button, or through the intuitive touch screen, sharing and securely storing pictures is a breeze.
The F2.5 bright lens captures crisp, detailed photos even in low light environments, a powerful 16.3M pixels BSI CMOS sensor that produces high-quality photos and video, and a wide 25mm lens for fully framed images, the MV900F is a high-performing and versatile camera. Plus, the 5x optical zoom makes shooting from long distances a snap.

The Wikipad Gaming Tablet

The Nintendo Wii U is not the only tablet-based gaming hardware launching this fall. Wikipad is a new 10-inch Android tablet designed from the ground up to work with a proprietary game pad dock.
Powered by an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, the Wikipad can download games from Nvidia's Tegra Zone store, Google Play, the PlayStation Mobile platform, and other app stores. Unlike other Android tablets that can also play a wide variety of games, the Wikipad's unique selling point is its custom handheld controller dock, which adds two analog sticks, shoulder triggers, a directional pad, and four buttons -- all of which makes it look a lot like a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 controller.
It is very thin and light, weighing 1.2 pounds and only 0.3 inch thick. The back surface (which is matte black plastic) has a small inset ridge running around it, which acts as a finger grip, and also helps guide the tablet into the game pad dock.

Weakness of Samsung Smartphones

Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S2 and S3 may be vulnerable to a flaw that could allow their personal data to be deleted from their device, a security researcher has discovered.

The malicious code, which is now circulating on the Internet, could trigger a factory reset of the popular handsets, according to Ravi Borgaonkar, a researcher in the Security in Communications department at Technical University Berlin, who demonstrated the vulnerability at the Ekoparty security conference in Argentina last week.

The flaw lies in the way Samsung's TouchWiz UI interacts with unstructured supplementary service data (USSD) codes, which execute commands on the handset's keypad. While most dialers require the user to hit the "send" button to complete the code, Samsung's does not, Borgaonkar said.

The Panasonic RP HJE355

Advantage
Panasonic's RP-HJE355 series in-ear headphones cost less than $20, sound very good for the money, and are comfortable to wear.

Unfavorable
There's no built-in microphone for making cell phone calls.

The Offer
Panasonic's very affordable RP-HJE355 series in-ear headphones sound as good as many earphones that cost twice as much.

Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820

Features
Nokia's flagship Windows Phone 8 device, the Nokia Lumia 920, features an impressive smartphone display based on exclusive technology called Nokia PureMotion HD+. With better than HD resolution, overdrive technology for keeping moving images pixel-perfect and sunlight enhancements for easy viewing even in the brightest sunlight, the 4.5-inch display of the Lumia 920 produces a totally immersive experience. PureMotion displays are super-sensitive with any touch interaction, enabled by the ClearPad Series 3 technology.
ClearPad Series 3 offers up to 10 finger full-time tracking and fast refresh rates, with industry leading signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR), delivering high performance to the most demanding smartphones. Synaptics' patented SignalClarity(TM) technology improves tracking accuracy, finger separation, and environmental and electrical noise robustness for an unmatched user experience. Synaptics' Design Studio(TM)4 (DS4) accelerates the ClearPad development cycle by enabling customers to evaluate and optimize the performance of their touch experience, enabling OEMS to implement their custom ClearPad sensor solution more efficiently.

The Samsung 840 Pro

This new drive is actually the professional version of the 840 series, so in a way it's a double upgrade since the 830 series didn't have a Pro version. The new drive differentiates itself from the rest of its SSD siblings by using Samsung's high-performance toggle-mode NAND flash memory, making it the direct competitor to the recently reviewed Corsair Neutron GTX.
The new Samsung 840 Pro was very fast, but it wasn't faster than the 830 series in certain tests, making it hard to justify the new drive's current cost, which is some 35 percent higher than its predecessor's. Plus the drive doesn't come with any accessories such as drive-bay converter for use with a desktop, which makes it much less of a good deal than the 830 series. In the 840 Pro's defense, it does indeed use much less power than the 830 series, or than other other SSDs I've seen for that matter.

Nokia Asha 308 and 309 into the Asha Touch family

The Asha 308 and Asha 309 feature 3-inch, scratch-resistant, capacitive touchscreens, a 2-megapixel camera, powerful built-in speakers and the fun-to-use Asha Touch operating system.
The Touch experience
The swipe-inspired Asha Touch experience is fast, entertaining and intuitive. Scrolling and swiping on the responsive capacitive touchscreen is used to navigate and explore each of the new phones.
You can easily and quickly swipe between your application launcher with all your apps in one place; your ‘My Screen’ can be personalised with favourite contacts, apps and shortcuts — and a third home screen provides quick access to most-used features such as the phone dialer or music player.
Web and social
The Asha 308 and Asha 309 feature Nokia’s new Xpress Browser, which uses cloud compression technology to make surfing the web faster whilst consuming up to 90 per cent less data.
One of the nice features of the Nokia Xpress Browser is that you can visit YouTube in the browser, and actually stream YouTube video via the phone’s video player.

Now Available, SAMSUNG’s EX2F SMART Camera

Have a Clever Handling and Creative Control
The EX2F delivers top-caliber image quality, thanks to a number of features. The industry-leading advanced f/1.4 24mm wide-angle lens and wide aperture deliver clear images and video even in very low light conditions. The EX2F excels in dim atmospheres with a 1/1.7-inch 12-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor to achieve crisp, blur-free images regardless of the lighting. The EX2F also incorporates full manual control as well as Aperture and Shutter Priority modes.

Snap Bright Images in Low-Light Conditions
The EX2F’s f/1.4 24mm wide-angle lens is roughly four times as bright as an f/2.8 camera lens, and the lens unit now consists of 11 elements in nine groups, with four aspherical lenses and two high refractive lenses. This combination allows for an increase in the amount of light on the sensor, resulting in an increase in both image quality and zoom ratio.

Share in Real-Time
With images so good they have to be shared, the EX2F takes the combination of high-quality imaging paired with connectivity to a new level. Integrated Wi-Fi connectivity enables users to connect to wireless networks without the need for any additional cards or devices, making it seamless to share and store photos and video directly from the camera.

What is in Samsung Galaxy Stellar

The handset's 4.8-inch height and 2.5-inch width, but the 0.47-inch depth is thicker than the slim high-end phones in the Samsung family. Still, a half-inch thickness is within the realm of normalcy, though it feels as hefty as it looks at 4.7 ounces.
The Galaxy Stellar strongly resembles the Droid Razr Charge, also for Verizon. A little smaller, it nevertheless has the same glossy black plastic body, similar port placements, and, most distinctively, a slightly peaked chin.

Advantage: Verizon's free Samsung Galaxy Stellar has 4G LTE, a nice screen, a fast processor, and very good battery life.

Unfavorable: The Galaxy Stellar's flashless camera takes poorer indoor shots, and call quality could use some work.

Offers: A pretty solid entry-level Android 4.0 handset on its own, the Samsung Galaxy Stellar gets a huge bump in value from the $0 price tag.

The T-Mobile Concord

The advantage: The T-Mobile ZTE Concord is an inexpensive prepaid device with an attractive design, decent call quality, and respectable 3G speeds.

Unfavorable: The Concord's photo quality is poor, it has a slow processor, and it runs on the dated Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

What it offers: The T-Mobile Concord's midrange specs won't turn any heads, but it's a reliable, stylish, and inexpensive handset that doesn't require a contract.

The Windows Phone 8S by HTC

Studio-quality sound and entertainment. Truly feel your music with Beats Audio™ built-in. You get deeper base, crisper vocals and detailed high notes on music, games, movies and videos.

High-performing battery.
Stay connected while charging your phone less than other phones—thanks to the 1GHz dual-core processor for powerful performance and an optimized battery. Plus, never be without your content again—photos, documents and more are easily accessible on your free 7GB SkyDrive account.

The SAMSUNG Galaxy Rush

The Samsung Galaxy Rush is a sleek and affordable Android 4.0 smartphone that has a 3.5-inch touchscreen, 3MP rear camera and 1.3MP front-facing camera, which allows for face-to-face chatting and the ease of sharing pictures and videos.

Features of the Samsung Galaxy Rush include:
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system
3.5-inch touchscreen display
3MP camera with flash and video camera
1.3MP front-facing camera
Wi-Fi® and GPS enabled
1GHz processor
Stereo Bluetooth® capable
Services: Boost Zone, Mobile ID and Google Mobile Apps

The TP-Link 150Mbps Wireless N Nano Router

Advantage: The TP-Link 150Mbps Wireless N Nano Router (TL-WR702N) is really small, affordable, and flexible, and will provide good performance.

Unfavorable: The TP-Link 150Mbps Wireless N Nano Router doesn't work as a router out of the box, which potentially could make it hard to access its Web interface. The router doesn't support IPv6.

What it offers: Tiny and affordable, the TP-Link 150Mbps Wireless N Nano Router makes a great companion for mobile users.

The Panasonic RP HJE355

Advantage: Panasonic's RP-HJE355 series in-ear headphones cost less than $20.

Unfavorable: There's no built-in microphone for making cell phone calls.

Offers: Panasonic's very affordable RP-HJE355 series in-ear headphones sound as good as many earphones that cost twice as much.

Sony Introduces Smaller and Lighter PlayStation 3

PS3 will be available in two different models, with 250GB and 500GB HDDs which will allow you to store even more of your digital life. It also features a smaller, streamlined design that will look great as part of any entertainment system. The new model is approximately 25% smaller and 20% lighter than the current PS3.
The winner of over 60 industry and Game of the Year awards, UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception will be re-released next week in an all new Game of the Year Edition, which includes 12 new multiplayer maps, over 40 multiplayer skins, Fort Co-Op Adventure, and Shade Survival Mode, a value of over $45 in bonus content. In case you somehow missed it, UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception is the latest installment in Naughty Dog’s storied UNCHARTED franchise that chronicles the adventures of Nathan Drake. UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception Game of the Year Edition is a great way to kick off your gameplay experience on the newest PS3 model.

The Worst Smartphones in America

Apple is not the worst, because of the iPhone.
Samsung is not the worst, because of the Galaxy S III.
HTC is not the worst, because of the HTC One X.
Motorola is not the worst, because of the DROID RAZR MAXX. (They are the worst at egregious overuse of capital letters, however).
Nokia is not the worst, because of the Lumia 920.
Sony is not the worst, because of the Xperia Ion (and its suite of excellent Japanese Xperia phones which should be on their way soon).

What is in Toshiba 32C120U

Advantage: The 32-inch Toshiba 32C120U LCD TV is dirt-cheap. Its picture stacks up well overall against that of other 32-inch sets, with relatively deep black levels and uniformity along with solid bright-room quality.

Unfavorable: In color accuracy, the Toshiba 32C120U is worse than many entry-level TVs. Design is also a low point, with a generic exterior and subpar remote.

Offers: If you want the cheapest small TV with halfway-decent picture quality, look no further than the Toshiba 32C120U.

The Advantage and Disadvantage of iPhone 5

Advantage: The iPhone 5 adds everything we wanted in the iPhone 4S: 4G LTE, a longer, larger screen, and a faster A6 processor. Plus, its top-to-bottom redesign is sharp, slim, and feather-light.

Disadvantage: Sprint and Verizon models can't use voice and data simultaneously. The smaller connector renders current accessories unusable without an adapter. There's no NFC, and the screen size pales in comparison to jumbo Android models.

Offers: The iPhone 5 completely rebuilds the iPhone on a framework of new features and design, addressing its major previous shortcomings. It's absolutely the best iPhone to date, and it easily secures its place in the top tier of the smartphone universe.

Panasonic GH3

The GH2 was an expensive consumer camera with some really nice video features; the GH3 is an updated version designed to meet the needs of the indie and pro videographers who somewhat unexpectedly gravitated to the GH2.
It's practically an entirely new camera: new body, new sensor, new autofocus system, new OLED LCD and EVF, new video codec, useful new still and video features, and Wi-Fi connectivity. The body's now dust-and-splash sealed over a magnesium alloy chassis, with a more streamlined control layout. According to Panasonic, the sensor plus the new version of the image-processing engine have an optimized low-pass filter for reduced moiré, an expanded dynamic range with the company's most recent noise-reduction algorithms, and improvements in white balance for more accurate color.

Coming Up Blackberry 10

Research In Motion is working hard on its upcoming BlackBerry 10 platform.

It’s unclear right now whether the hardware has been finalized and if RIM is solely focusing on the software, but given that these are expected next year, both might still be in flux. Nevertheless, these are definitely test units, as CrackBerry points out the devices are still carrying their serial numbers.
